Count vs Microsoft Copilot: Beyond Cited Sources [2026]
Copilot drafts memos and analysis from your Microsoft 365 files. Count shows whether each claim is supported by them, and whether the conclusion follows.
Microsoft 365 Copilot reads your organisation's files and email and drafts memos, summaries and recommendations from them, right inside Word, Excel, Teams and Outlook. Count is a collaborative platform for AI-powered research and analysis that shows the reasoning chain behind every answer. Copilot produces the draft. Count shows whether the draft holds up.
Copilot tells you which files it used. Count tells you which claims those files support.
Is a list of cited files enough?
Copilot links to the files and pages it drew on, which tells you where it looked. It does not tell you whether each sentence is supported by those files. Checking means opening every source and reading it against every claim, and in a memo built from twenty documents that is most of the work.
Count does that reading for you. Each claim is traced to the document, page or calculation it rests on, or flagged when it rests on nothing. Claims built on the model's own memory are marked separately, because they can be out of date even when they sound authoritative.
When the reasoning is scattered across apps
In Microsoft 365 the work behind a recommendation tends to spread out: source files in SharePoint, numbers in Excel, the discussion in Teams, the draft in Word. Each part is capable, but when someone asks why the recommendation says what it says, the answer is in five places.
Count keeps it in one. The research, the agent's work, the sources and your team's comments sit on one canvas, and a report or deck built from it keeps the reasoning attached.
What Count brings that Copilot doesn't
- Claim-by-claim checking. Every claim is labelled as cited, assumed, model knowledge or a potential hallucination.
- Real-time work on the reasoning. Copilot Pages can be co-edited; in Count, people and the agent work on the same canvas, with comments on individual claims.
- Live reports outside Power BI. Count turns research into live reports with schedules and alerts, without a second product.
- An open MCP hub. Copilot Studio agents can call MCP servers as tools. Count connects to MCP servers and runs its own MCP server, so answers from Claude or ChatGPT can be checked in the same place.
- Works with your Microsoft stack. Single sign-on through Microsoft Entra ID, and connections to Azure Synapse and SQL Server.
“Instead of handing off dashboards, we're working in a shared space where insights, discussions and decisions come together.” - Scott Hibberd, Data Lead at Passion (review on G2)
